MP Travel’s commitment to your privacy.

The privacy of individuals, including our clients, is of utmost importance to MP Travel. This includes information or opinions about you that we collect and record which reasonably could be used to identify you. We adhere to the National Privacy Principles and the Privacy Act 1988.

This document sets out the company’s policies for managing personal information within MP Travel. MP Travel has a Privacy Officer, whose contact details are shown below.

Types of personal information MP Travel collects.

When dealing with our clients, we generally collect your name, address, telephone number, other contact details and some personal information about you. MP Travel collects and updates personal information necessary to set up and maintain your Traveller Profile.

MP Travel generally does not collect sensitive information from its clients, and would not do so without their consent.

Why MP Travel collects personal information.

MP Travel collects, updates and uses personal information about you to carry out our business which can include:

Processing services you request (with airlines, hotels and other accommodation providers, car rental companies, tour operators, travel insurance companies, and rail, bus, sea and other transportation companies);

Providing training, quality control and verification of data;

Providing data to credit card companies when you choose to charge services to your credit card;

Communicating our marketing offers to you; and

Satisfying our legal obligation to act as your travel agent.

How does MP Travel collect information

Usually, MP Travel collects personal information directly from you, such as when you supply us with a Traveller Profile. We also collect information over the telephone or Internet, in person and when you write to us, including e-mail.

How does MP Travel store information?

The company stores personal information in its secure computer storage facility and paper based files and other records. MP Travel protects the personal information it holds from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. MP Travel uses generally accepted technology and security so that it is satisfied that your information is transmitted safely to us through the Internet or other electronic means.

MP Travel takes reasonable steps to securely destroy or permanently de-identify personal information when it no longer needs it.

When the company may disclose your personal information.

Generally, the company may disclose personal information about you in the following circumstances:

With effect from 5 March 2003, the US Government requires access to passenger information held by all airlines. Australia and others are expected to follow suit soon after. This is a universal situation that is required of all airlines and travel agencies.

MP Travel imposes strict requirements of security and confidentiality on all third parties as to how they handle personal information. MP Travel provides its travel suppliers only with information they need to perform their services – they are not permitted to use the information for any purpose except to provide that service.

Keeping us up to date.

MP Travel takes reasonable steps to make sure that the personal information we collect, use or disclose is accurate, complete and up-to-date. If your personal details change, such as your telephone number, billing address or credit card number, please contact us so we can continue to provide you with our services.

You can access your personal information.

Following a request, MP Travel will provide you with a copy of personal information that it holds about you in accordance with its obligations under the Privacy Act. MP Travel may charge a fee for retrieving this information (we will inform you of the fee before providing the information).
